Autism Spectrum Disorder
and Asperger’s Syndrome

Has your child been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder?
Do you wonder whether they will be able to lead a normal live?
Will they be able to make friends, be emotionally stable and achieve career success?
You have likely already realized that there are not many options for ASD treatment. You are not alone in feeling frustrated, even scarerd, and desperately wanting to find options for your child. Neurofeedback is an emerging treatment for autism that can help with behaviour, emotions, social skills, language development, and academic performance, and can give you a sense of hope for your child’s future.
LIVING WITH AUTISM IS DIFFICULT
While autism can be diagnosed at any age, symptoms usually appear in the first two years of a child’s life. It’s during these developmental years that signs and symptoms emerge. Autism can cause difficulty in communication, repetitive behaviours, anxiety, and affect your child’s life in school, work, and in social relationships. Because autism is a spectrum disorder, it can affect two people drastically differently, meaning a specific, personalized approach is required.
TREATMENTS CAN INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback and Autism
Studies have shown more than one brain pattern associated with autism. Some patterns are associated with inattention, impulsivity, and hyperarousal, while other patterns are associated with obsessions and overfocusing. Since autism is a spectrum, it is integral to have an initial assessment, including a QEEG (brain map), to know which pattern is present and understand what to work on.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH NEUROFEEDBACK
Neurofeedback targets the areas of the brain critical in a child’s early development. This type of training affects the areas of the brain where patterns associated with autism affect, and it usually takes longer to have noticeable effects. Common initial improvements we see is increased attention, followed by improvements in academic performance, speech, and social skills. Throughout the duration of our treatment, we also see gradual decreases in autistic behaviours.
